Question
Hi Mr. Grabill, I served 4 years in the Marines and got discharged honorably with a RE-1A code.  I got out and wasted some time, but now im back on track and im in college.  I am just finishing my freshman year and want to become a Marine Officer.  I read that the age requirement is no more than 28.  I am 26 now and obviously still have about 3 years left of school.  Would there be an age waiver for me considering my prior service?  Do you think its a good idea to get started on the PLC program now?  Also, i was a very stupid kid when i took my asvab, i was 17 and scored very low.  About 39 but with a OK GT score of 110.  I am smarter now and have dedicated myself to the books, would i be able to retake this? or im i stuck,?  Thank you

Answer
Billy;

 I'd get in contact with an officer recruiter at your college ASAP and find out what the exact requirements are for your situation.  You may be eligible for a waiver.  I'd also try and re-take the ASVAB at the same time.  (You can get an asvab study guide from a library to prep for that).

 You'll never know unless you try, so I'd be making phone calls!  Best of luck & Semper Fi!

Jason

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
