Question
Hey
I was told by my recruiter that I might be able to get into the Amy National guard even thought I have an RE-i was discharged for Fraudulent Enlistment under Honorable Conditions from the U.S.M.C. I have an appointment to have a psyche evaluation and I have 25 character recommendation. He said that I could stay in that for a year and then transfer into the marines. I wanted to know if my ranks will stay that same from when I would be in the National Guard.

And he said that this might be my only way to get back into the Marines...so if i sent all my paper work in to get my RE code changed by the time i did hear anything back it would be almost a year. DO you think its a good idea????

once a Marine Always a Marine

Answer
Alex:

What the recruiter said is basically true.  IF you can get waivered to get into the Guard (and it sounds like you have a good shot at it), then yes, it could work that way.  However, you may have to stay in the Guard longer than a year to get this done.  Be prepared for that possibility.  It will likely take some time for the paperwork to wind it's way through the system, so try and be patient.

Overall, I think you have a good shot at it.  Keep plugging away and good luck.

And, yes, your rank will transfer (usually up to E-4).  Anything above E-4 will not transfer in most cases.  E-3 and below will not be a problem, though.

 Good luck and Semper Fi.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
