Question
Before I try to update my DD-214 I am trying to get information on awards that I may be eligible for. I have been out ot the Corps since 1970 and reading the NAVMC is sometimes confusing.

Under III Marine Amphibious Force there is a NUC for HQ from 1 July1968 - 14 April 1971 or HQ & Service Co Sub unit 1 with the Supporting unit III MAF.  Would this qualify all who served under this command the NUC.

Second HQ Bn 1st Marine Division given a MUC from 1 Jan 1969-31 Dec. 1969. Does this qualify for that award.

Third The USMC Good Conduct Medal I know it says three years service but in reading the Marine Corps Seperation Manual SEC 1006 Para. H page 1-23.  It says  Marines consenting to early discharge or release to inactive duty per this paragrapy shall be granted a waiver not to exceed the cactual number of days that the early realse is effected provided they are otherwise eligible for this award.  My understanding is that I should be granted that waiver. Am I correct?

Answer
Buddy:

It sounds to me like you are correct on all counts.   If you were assigned to HQ, III MAF (or the sub-unit) at that time period, you rate the NUC.  However, you would have to have been assigned to that unit by RUC (Reporting Unit code) which will show up on your Page 3 of your SRB.   Same goes for HQ Bn 1st MarDiv.  As long as you were assigned to both (or either) units by RUC (and that can be TAD or FAP as well) then you would rate both awards.

As far as the GCM, you should rate it as well.

Kudos for your research ability.  You are right on.

Semper Fi!

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
