Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/when to get married

Question
I am engaged to someone who just recently joined the military. He just left for basic and we were going to get married once he finishes AIT and comes home for leave. Was waiting  to get married until he joined the military the wrong thing to do?  Would it be a good thing to try and get married between basic and AIT? He has no idea where he is going to get stationed and we planned on being able to move there together, is that an unrealistic plan? I am so confused

Answer
Erin,

Dont worry, you two did the right thing. He needs to be thinking about his training right now..... When he finishes his AIT , he will be able to take some leave. Advise him that he should take advantage of the home town recruiter assistance program that the most of the services have, this will be the perfect opportunity for you two to get married and the leave is usually free. He has to work while he is at home, but its a thought. Most Trainees get 2 weeks before they have to head off to the base. Then after you get married, you will go with him. Just be sure that he gets you added to his orders after the ceremony....

Congrats!!....relax....things will be fine

I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
