Question
I was wondering how you can find out how many open military intelligence positions there are to branching cadets with a GRFD scholarship?  Do the first choices for branches go to the active duty cadets first and then to us?  I am currently going to be SMP and have already completed training and become MOS qualified as a 35F Intel Analyst in the Guard.  I was going to do ROTC because I want to become an MI officer, but I know that my grades won't put me at the top 10 percent that get to choose.  Do you know how many slots there are available each year to cadets for MI?  And will being prior enlisted MI help in branching MI?

Answer
For GFRD it all depends on the availibility with in the state of which you will serve.  If you are already MI by MOS and have decent grades and/or have a degree which would help, your chnaces are better.  I would speak with the Guard OSM to find out future availibility.  Active slots do not have an effect on Guard slots, they are divied out differently.  You are branched by the need of the state for Guard and I am not sure how reserves do it, most likley, big army decides that.

Thanks for serving and good luck.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
