Question
Hello,
i have a question about MIP of Alcohol.
I am joining the navy, i have taken my asvab and scored way above the requirements for Corpsman, the job i am trying to get, i am a premed student and it just makes sense to go that route.  NOW, my recruiter says i cant join as Corpsman because i have an MIP of alcohol from the year 2000 when i was 17 years old and im 24 now. I find that hard to belive since i don't have any other charges like it and have never received any type of alcohol charge again, also i talked with a woman whos brother is a corpsman and has 2 duis???? whats the deal, is he just pushing other rates to fill quota?

Answer
Rules change over the years and some jobs now require no alcohol or drug charges ever in your past.  Recruiters get same credit for enlisting a cook or a medic.  It's actually harder to become a medic, so if he could make you a medic, I am sure he would.  You could ask him to show you that rule in writing, he should have no issue doing so.

Good luck

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
