Question
I was 14 years old when I Was arrested in school for taking another students playing cards and throwing them in the bushes as a bad joke. I was charged with strong armed robbery and did a pretrial intervention program to seal the record. I am now 19 and I am trying to pursue a navy career. I scored an 82 on the asvab. I need a waiver for the incident that occured and i am currently waiting on the answer as to whether or not i will receive it( its been 1 month now). I have been recommended by everybody including the commander for the waiver. What are the chances of me receiving the waiver, and if I do get it, how much longer will it take? Is there something i can do to influence the time? Not knowing if I will receive it or not is killing me.

Answer
At this time, there is nothing you can do.  You were never convicted of a felony.  The intervention stuff prevented that, but it still looks bad.

Waivers can sometimes take time.  Just hold tight and it will come.  I have been doing this job for a while, and I still cannot figure out why some waivers take forever to come back, just to be approved.

Go figure.  I guess its a test to see if you really want it.

Good luck.

Patience...I know its hard.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
