Question
hey, i'm a marine reservist with 18months left on my contract, i recently applied for a flight seat with the DE Army national guard and was accepted after taking all the necessary tests and interviews.  i applied for my transfer from the marine reserve to the national guard WOFT program in the first week of september 2008, i just recieved word back that it was denied.  i have a full college degree, combat tour, and a great oppertunity here, do i have any option to fight back and get this seat to fly? i have a WOCS and flight seat already slotted for May that was confirmed by a CWO4.  thanks

Answer
The Marines have every right to deny the request for release, but that does not make it right.  I would try to find out the reason for the denial, sometimes there are notes attached as to why.  I do not know who has final say so in the Corps.  Find out and try to resubmit it.  Sometimes, there are waiting periods.  Did you have anyone in your chain of command interview you?  Usually you would.

If your unit is due to dpeloy within the next 12 months, that could be the reason.

Be a pian until you find the answer out.

Also, are you a non-ob?  If so, just get transferered to the IRR, it real easy from there.

Good luck.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
