Question
Hi my fiance is in the USMC.  He graduated boot camp October 10, 2008.  We were planning to be married Fall 2009 but since he can't really know if he'll be stateside next fall until, well, next fall we decided to get married when he comes back for the holidays. His mother went to talk to his recruiter today that he was planning to work with during the holidays so as to get our marriage and the two days of our honeymoon off, but he said that he doesn't think that my fiance and I can get married until after he's done with his infantry training (which should be mid January). Is this true? And if it is, what are our options so that my fiance and I could get married before he goes overseas.

Answer
Heidi:

There is no rule or law prohibiting you from getting married whenever you want to.  My advice, however, is to wait, because circumstances will change, as will he, now that he's in the military.

I don't see an issue, nor is there anything in the UCMJ about not getting married at certain times.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
