Question
Hi Cynthia,

There was a previous question regarding age and commission. Your answer
stated it was 30 (without prior enlistment experience). I am 41 with a
bachelor's degree I earned after my enlistment in the Marines.  Is there any
way the government will waive the age requirement so that I could possibly
join the war?

Thanks,

John

Answer
Dear John --

Due to the current conflicts, the maximum age limits have changed significantly.

With a waiver, you can earn a commission up to age 42 without prior active duty service.  If you have had prior active duty service, add that number of years to the max age, and that becomes your maximum age.

The Army is most likely to want your skills and offer you a spot at officer candidate school (OCS).  However, if you really prefer to return as a Marine officer, you should check with their recruiters first.

You must meet all the physical, medical, intellectual and moral requirements that a new recruit must meet.  If you do, you are a good candidate for returning to service and earning your commission.

Good luck to you.  Please write back, if you have additional questions.
