Question
I am 33years old and am trying to join the Army. I took the ASVAB and got a 47. I have a diploma. I will be going to MEPS next week for physical.when I was 19 I got a felony for possession of a stolen credit card. 21 got a dui and another @ 23. Its been 10 years since ive been in any trouble. Do you think my recruiter will be able to get these past offenses waived?

Answer
Dear Eric --

It is possible that your recruiter can get your felony and misdemeanors waivered to allow you to enlist.  Especially since they are fairly old, and you have not been in trouble with the law since then.

However, a 47 on the ASVAB sounds extremely low to me.  Waivers are generally reserved for otherwise highly qualified candidates.  A low ASVAB score will not make you a "highly qualified" candidate.

I would check and see if that is your total score, or the score on a subsection of the test.  If it is your score, I recommend taking practice ASVAB tests (you can get a practice book in most book stores) and then taking the test again before you try to enlist.

Good luck to you.
