Question
Hi, I wasn't sure who to ask, but I'm fairly new to this. My boyfriend is graduating from pilot training next week and his assignment is Cannon AFB in New Mexico. I don't know when we'll move but I also don't know the military's policies on housing- I have heard a few different variations. We have a one year old son together and have been living together for almost a year. How does the housing/moving go ? I apologize for the bad grammar, I just got through a tough lunch feeding with our son- he does not like green beans! Anyway, my boyfriend heard there might be exceptions for on-base housing since we have a son together and are planning on getting married in the next year or two. However I've heard that there aren't exceptions as well as that it might be possible. I am just very confused and would like to hear from an expert what our options are. Thank you very much for your time!

Answer
Bototm line, for housing you need to be married.  I have never heard of anything else otherwise.

I am not saying that they won't let you and his/your son move in, but I have never heard of that.

If you plan on getting married anyways, I say just do it.  You will have benefits and it will make things alot easier on you as a family.

Good luck

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
