Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Commission Resignation

Question
I resigned my commission and was honorably discharged in Oct. 2007.  I was in the chaplain candidacy school, which requires that one must retain endorsement while in seminary school.  Well, I was in seminary for only one semester after being commissioned.  I, unfortunately, had to get out of the military because of the endorsement loss and leaving seminary schooling.  I didn't even receive a DD-214 because I was on on active duty for more than 90 days.  I did a 1.5 month TAD with the Marines in the summer of 2005.  That was it.  I started seminary in the fall of 2005 and left afterwards, because Catholic priests couldn't get married and having a family was something I wanted.

I now want to come back in to the service as an officer, but in a different job setting.  Is this still possible for someone like myself.

Best,

Regards,

Answer
Becoming an officer is possible, but there are requirements.  If you have a college degree or close to it, then you would be eligible for the OCS option in the National Guard.  The Active Army has different requirements, you usually need a degree to come in that way.

If you have a 4 yr degree or close to it, call a guard recruiter and let him show you the way.  I am sure you are qualified otherwise because you were in uniform before.

good luck

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
