Question
I have previously thought about joining the Marine Corps as a musician. In high school, I took the ASVAB and scored a 96 I believe. I talked to my recruiter, went to meps. Got turned down due to problems with my left ear. However, I did get a waiver. My question is. If I was to start this whole process over again, can I still get a waiver? Im only 22 years old. And was 18 when going through that whole process. Also, I did not graduate high school. Can I get in with a GED? Also, you think the Marine Corp is the best place for musicians?

Answer
Dear Joshua --

If you got a waiver before, and your condition has not changed, you are likely to receive another waiver.

You can enter the service with a GED certificate, but your "quality" will be slightly lower as a recruit.

Although the Marine Corps bands are excellent, you will have more diverse opportunities in the larger services.  I recommend you check your options in all 4 services and choose which service gives you the best offer.

Good luck to you.
