Question
I have a question regarding 'white coat syndrome' or fainting. I have fainted before when having blood drawn and passed out at the hospital before.  I know this sounds ridiculous but does this exclude one from service automatically? I am 32 and have considered joining the army reserves.

Answer
Dear Matthew --

I do not believe that being prone to fainting when blood is drawn or when you receive a "shot" for a vaccination would keep you from enlisting.

You will receive numerous "shots" during your career, and you should ensure that the medical personnel know that you are prone to fainting, so they can ensure you are safely seated when you receive your shots.

Good luck to you.
