Question
I recently joined the Army National Guard in October and it is now December. When i joined i was reckless and just wanted to jump in without thinking it completely through. I've been to RSP about 3 times and i am supposed to ship out in April. My question is that now that I've been to drill and had time for it to really soak in, i have realized what I've gotten myself in to and i now have severe regrets on joining. Is there any way i could possibly get out? I know i sound like another ungrateful kid, but i joined for the wrong reasons and i didn't think it completely through and now i regret it very much. If there is anything i can do to get out, please help.

thanks.

Answer
Realistically yes.

You do not HAVE to ship when it comes time, just do not show up.  Let your RSP SGT know that you do not wish to ship or come anymore.  His job will be to get to the root of the problem and try to get you back on board.  They are not bothering you, but their job is to get you to follow thru.

Listen to them, tell them thr truth on everyhting and it will make the process easier.  They want to help you as well.  You may find that you do wish to ship to basic and you will enjoy this.  maybe not.  Its ok to be afaraid and be doubtful about your decision.

They will help.  Enlist advise from people you trust and your parents.

Good luck

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
