Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Able to join?

Question
Hello,

I plan on joining the army and serving in a mechanic/engineer MOS or work with field artillery. However, there is a problem.

When I was 9 years old, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. First and foremost, here's how this disease affects me:

-Not at all. I've never needed medication, never had to watch my diet, or anything to prevent a flare-up (which I've never had.) Crohn's is just...there. Now, I know that this is a disqualifying condition, but I should be able to serve if it doesn't affect me at all! Is there any chance of being accepted?

-There is also a possibility that I may have been misdiagnosed. I was very young at that time, and there was a great deal of doubt as to the accuracy of the doctor's diagnosis. If I got a second doctor's opinion and explained that I am in good physical condition, would I be considered?

Answer
Dear Chris -

Crohn's disease is a disqualifying conditions. However, if you have never suffered any symptoms, I recommend that you get re-diagnosed. If the new doctor does not find Crohn's disease, then you should get a statement showing that you were probably misdiagnosed when you  were younger.

If that is the case, then you should be a good candidate. Best of luck to you.
