Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Army ETS, terminal leave question

Question
Hello,

I'm AD army. I am also a physician. I am in one of the stryker BDE's. I can ETS in June of 09. My worry is stop loss, as we will likely be getting to deploy again around that time. I have heard that if you get orders within 90 days of your ETS date then you can get stop lossed. I have also heard that doctors are not stop lossed. My question(s): 1. Assuming my unit would approve it, if I take terminal leave does that mean that 90 day window gets adjusted from my actual ETS date to my new "last day" before I go on terminal leave? 2. Do you know what the current policy is on doctors getting stop lossed or not? Thanks.

Answer
I would get with your separations unit and ask them that very same question... If they are going to stop loss anyone, they should know what careers are on the hitlist for that. As for taking terminal leave....I would just do as planned. The problem with the military is that they can stop loss at any given moment, but if you are on terminal leave, they are more than likely not going to bother you unless its last resort.

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
