Question
QUESTION: OK. I have Celiac Disease and have had it since I was nine months old. I recently went through a long process trying to get into the Marines. I was rejected by the MEPS process and the BU-MED process. I have longed dreamed of the military lifestyle, and honestly, as long as I'm out there making a difference, I don't care where they put me. I prefer the higher-risk occupations. I would be willing to join ANY branch of the military at this point. I started with the Marines because both of my grandfathers served there. Now, my question to you: If I am rejected via BU-MED from one branch, does it DQ me from every branch, or can I run through the branches like a checklist until I get in one?

ANSWER: Dan,

Unfortunately since you were rejected by the MEPS, you would again if you tried to reapply with another service...Same MEPS. I would start checking into Government jobs. Check out www.usajobs.com  You may have to attend college to get some of jobs, but not all. The Department of Homeland Security has many positions open...We all have to start somewhere...

QUESTION: Right, I am aware that every branch uses MEPS. BUT! knowing this, could I have the recruiter send a BUMED in and completely skip the MEPS process? I am convinced that my diet should not restrict me out on the lines, and I'm going to give it my best shot to get in. If you think about it, I can still have eggs, dairy, corn, rice, potatoes, veggies, and meat. It's just the breads and pastas that I cannot eat. I'm so frustrated over all this. Even if you just give me an opinion or suggestion, it's better than telling me you don't know. Thank you for your quick response. -Dan

Answer
What you need to do is get several doctors involved and have them write letters to the service you are trying to get in. You can try all the services, but oce they see you were rejected by the doc at the MEPS...its over.  You can also get in touch with your local congressman and senator to do an inquiry...You best bet is to get those docs and the politicians in your box...

good luck..

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
