Question
Sir,
I am a non-scholarship freshman in AFROTC.  I had a medical done about 18 months ago for admission to the air force academy where I was disqualified based on history of enuresis after age 12 (last documented when i was 14) and history of cholesteatoma. (removed when i was 4- no problem currently).  I have just been advised that i am no longer eligible to continue in AFROTC because of this disqualification.  I was wondering how difficult it is to get waivers for these conditions, and if i am granted a waiver, will that reduce career options, i.e. fighter pilot.  Is there a better chance for Army than Air Force? I just want to serve, it really doesn't matter which branch.

Answer
Casey,

Unfortunately there is no waivers, if there had, they would have offered it to you at the time to keep youy. You can how ever challenge the decision, but you will have to have an extensive work up by your doca nd then with the results of the decision from the Academy and your doc, get in touch with your state senator for an inquiry. After that wait for a decision. As for the AFROTC saying you can not continue? I personally think thats a crock, but rules are rules...

Thats what I would do if you want.. There are no guarantees it will work. There are other ways to serve your country...Check www.usajobs.com  There are jobs with the FBI, DEA, CIA, Secret Service, FEMA, Dept of the Treasury, ATF and TSA.

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
