Question
I am currently an officer in the Navy and I am being involuntarily processed due to failure to select to O-4.  I will receive an honorable discharge.  I would like to join another branch of service upon my discharge, but I have been told that I am not allowed to do that.  Is this true?

Answer
Dear Samantha --

Don't take the discharge yet.  Apply immediately for the Blue-to-Green program, and see if you meet the Army standards for transition.  If you do, you should keep your current rank, and be eligible for promotion on the Army schedule.

If you take your discharge, you could come back in, but not as likely at the officer rank.  You could also join the Naval reserve, and possible gain your rank there.

Check out this website for the Blue-to-Green option:  https://www.hrc.army.mil/site/Active/opdistacc/IST/CIST.htm

Good luck to you.
