Question
I talked to a recruiter today about transfering from Air National Guard to active duty Air Force and as soon as I asked him that question he said "no, call me back in October." Now I know there is a way that this can be done. I work on jet engines and there must be a need for my services since we fly on a daily basis. I understand the AF categorizes prior service after serving 24 months of active duty. I just signed up at the end of December of 06 so what category would that put me in. I guess what im saying is as long as my unit releases me and im not prior service why is it such a big deal for me to switch? Thank you for your time and your knowledge.

Answer
He tells you to call back in October for a reason....Thats is the start of the new physical year. As it sits right now there is no selection of prior service being accomplished at this time. Even though you are Air Natl guard....YOU are prior service to the Active sector... Keep checking back with them from time to time, believe me if that door opens you want to be known....it closes fast!

If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
