Question

I am currently in the Virginia Army National Guard attentding  college at the same time. I am NOT MOSQ, i have only attended Basic Training. My unit was deploying recently so i decided to SMP at an Army ROTC program, so i could be nondeployable and at the same time receive my commission in two years. I was of no use to my unit because of lack of training . My original intent was to become an Air Force officer through Air Force ROTC, but i wasnt a citizen. The reason why i joined the national guard is because i could get my citizenship to get into the ROTC program.  I have finally received my citizenship. Right now i am trying to transfer from Army ROTC to Air Force ROTC, but the national guard unit is very reluctant in helping me with the process. In other words, what would be the best way to be released from the national guard unit to go join the AFROTC program. Once again, i am not MOSQ and i am also part of the SMP program (Simultaneous membership program). Joinging AFROTC would mean leaving the National Guard and leaving the Army ROTC program. I contacted  A LOT of people, they said it was possible but couldnt give me the details. If you can respond to these questions, i would be really really  obliged, so far i havent had anyone give me astraight forward response. Once again, thank you.

Answer
The decision lies with your commander, that person is the only one who can authorize the movement. I would get in touchwith your commander and let that person know your plans.

A lot depends on what you owe the AMRY ROTC as far a tuition if, but your commander has the ultimate decision if to release you to the Air Force ROTC or not.

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
