Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/age limit for the marines

Question
i have a friend who wants to join the marines but was told that since he doesn't have 15 college credits he can't. his worry is that he turns 26 in 3 months and that the age limit is 25. so he was thinking about joining the army instead. i suggested joing the army and switching to the marines after his army term was up but he said he still thinks he would be inelegible. i saw where someone had asked before about them raising the age limit to 38 but that was asked in 2005 and so i'm not sure how accurate that info is. so any info you could provide me about age limits and transfering to the marines after a term in the army would be greatly appreciated.

thank you,
jessica

Answer
Jessica:

If your friend has a HS Diploma he doesn't need the college credits.  I'm guessing that he only has a GED.   The age limit is 26 not 25, so he's ok until he turns 27.

The age limit has not been raised for the Marine Corps but it HAS been raised for the army, to 42.

As long as his service in the army was honorable, he could transfer to the Marines after doing his time.  Of course he would still have to go through recruit training, etc, for the Marine Corps.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
