Question
My boyfriend, well soon to be fiance just started his MOS school today and I was wondering when he gets his duty station how long will he be there, like whats the length of this stationing? He is suppose to be going into some supply field but i'm not sure exactly what. And how will things go for us, i'm young,18 and I will be graduating high school in 3 months and we plan on getting married soon that way we want have to worry about most of our issues, but on the other hand what are the odds of things working out for us?

Answer
C:

His duty station is his permanant assignment, meaning he'll be there for the rest of his time in the military.

Getting married means you'll have twice as many 'issues' to worry about, I assure you of that.  Your odds quite frankly, are not the greatest.  While some young couples do make it work, most do not.

Your b/f will be a private or pfc, meaning his time will not be his own even at his first duty station.  The Marine Corps comes first, no matter what.  He'll have more training, duty to stand, and other things to do that make being a Marine NOT a typical "9-5" job.  Plus there is the very real likelihood that he will deploy to some foriegn land within a year of getting to his first duty station.

I always advised my young troops to hold off on marriage until they had at least 2 years time in service or had made Corporal.  I would do the same in this case.  No offense but he needs to focus on his job and not home issues for his first few years in the Corps.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
