Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/meps disqualified

Question
QUESTION: My boyfriend was suppose to be leaving for bootcamp and when he got down to MEPs he was disqualified for medical reasons and was told he needed a wavier.  He has had a surgery about three years ago for scrotum pain and the surgery was a success and has no further problems.  About four months ago he was having pain in his groin thinking it might be a hernia or pulled groin.  He went to his doctor and they performed every test imaginable and his doctor said there was nothing wrong and he was fine to join.  When he got down to MEPs he told their doctors he had been seen and treated and the disqualified him saying he needed to be treated.  He had his doctor write  a letter clarifying nothing was wrong and sent in his medical records.  My question is, if they decided to tell him he can't join when there is physically nothing wrong, what are his options to fight the disqualification?  Can he appeal the decision?

ANSWER: Morgan:

If there was nothing wrong with him, I'm not sure why MEPS DQ'd him, esp. if he got a letter from his doctor as well as a medical review.  There is something missing here that you or I am not being told, they don't DQ you for nothing.  Something doesn't make sense here.

QUESTION: They didn't have his letter or records when they DQ'd him.  His mom sent them all the notes from the doctor and they still decided it wasn't enough.  Just this week he sent in the letter and medical records.  But when he was at MEPS the first time they said he didn't have enough medical records to show he was fine.  So I'm concerned they might say the same thing this time with all of his info.  If they do what are his options?

Answer
Ah, now I see why they did what they did, not enough information.  This time, if his records are updated and complete, it shouldn't be that big an issue.

If they do he can try to appeal it, the recruiter will know how to do that.    If that doesn't work, then he's disqualified and there is nothing else that can be done I'm afraid.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
