Question
Hi, I am scheduled to get out of the Navy in early June and I have about 50 days of leave on the books that I can take as terminal leave.  My LPO (leading petty officer) is telling that I will NOT be able to use all my terminal leave because we are short on people.  This is not true.  I have checked out manpower database and even though we are short a bit the mission can be accomplished without me there.  My chain is giving me the run-around as far as my terminal leave goes as you can see.  They haven't even submitted the chit that I gave them. (the OIC is the only person who can disapprove any leave chit)  In order to take the terminal leave during the times that I put on my leave chit, this matter has to be resolved in the next seven days.  What do you think I can do to resolve this and take my terminal leave?  Here are some possibilities I was considering:

1. schedule a meeting with the OIC himself
2. report this to the Navy Inspector General

What are your thoughts?

Answer
Well theres nothing that states that you can not CC email traffic to you supervisors. I do this occasionally when I need to get thing accomplished. You have to go thru the chain of command, this we are bount to, so I include the whole chain of command when I have a problem. This accopmplishes several things. 1. It will be addressed to your supervicor and 2 your supervisor can not keep it under his hat becasue his boss and his boss have the traffic. You can address your issue directly to that person and just include the rest of the chain...

The Navy has the option to work you till your last day. You can then sell your remaining leave back to the DoD.

The email traffic thing seems to work for me, but then if you are still having supervisory issues..aND YOU ARE GETTING NOWHERE.....Seek the IG.
