Question
Hello!

I am 17 years old and i am seriously thinking about becoming a pilot through the air force. I have a couple of questions

1.) How hard and How long will it take to become a pilot
2.) When do you recommend joining and how should i go about doing it
3.) While i am a junior in high school what classes should i take (I will have pretty much 4 years of English, Science, Math, History)
4.) Does ACT score matter?
5.) Any tips?

Thank You!

Answer
1.) How hard and How long will it take to become a pilot

You will need a 4 year Degree in Aeronautical Science. You can get this in one of 2 ways.. Find a reputable college and look at paying 80000 to 125000 in college tuition or look at colleges that have AFROTC and try to get a scholarship for the degree. The application has to be submitted by the end of your Junior year of High School. or just join the air force and come in as a crew chief. As an active member of the AF you can go to Embry Riddle which is on every base and get your degree that way.

2.) When do you recommend joining and how should i go about doing it

Joining is good at anytime from age 17

3.) While i am a junior in high school what classes should i take (I will have pretty much 4 years of English, Science, Math, History)

MATH>>>MATH>>>>MATH!!! The more math the higher the ASVAB score will be.

4.) Does ACT score matter?

No ACT's do not count in the military

5.) Any tips?

The only tips that I can offer, is make sure that you have the desire to serve....In what ever the capacity. Stay out of trouble with the law....stay away from drugs & alcohol...and get in the the greatest shape you can before you enter the military. Those things alone are the biggest disqualifiers of military service and caus ethe greatest disapointments.

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
