Question
My husband was accepted into the Navy with a GED waiver.  He was told that if he could get in, the fact that he had a GED and not a diploma would not affect his career. However, even after graduating from A-school as top grad he still has not been given his first orders.  They keep passing him up because he has an educational waiver. He has been waiting for three months for orders now and has been watching people who haven't even graduated yet. Are we going to have to struggle against this his entire career? If so, what can we do to help him along?

Answer
Your husband may be an education waiver, but he is still under contract. I would review the enlistment contract to be sure that the Navy didnt breach it.

This will not be a career long ordeal, once he is finally placed, all that will disapear. However I would have him persue it up his chain of command, if he doesnt get anywhere then apprach the Inspector General.

I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
