Question
QUESTION: I served nine years in the USMC and was honorably discharged with an RE-30 code. Can I join the reserves?

ANSWER: Gabriel:

There is no "RE-30" code for the Marine Corps.  If you mean an RE-3"D" code, then no, you cannot, without a waiver granted by HQMC.  Talk to a recruiter for more information.

QUESTION: Block 27 on my DD 214 reads RE-30. Block 26 reads KBK1. Could this be a mistype on my 214. It clearly reads RE-30. I can fax it to you if you like.

Answer
Gabriel:

No, I believe you.  My information is the most current, but that does NOT mean that when you were discharged, this would be an incorrect number.  The DoD has stopped publishing the re-enlistment codes, so my information could easily be wrong.

Go and talk to a recruiter, they will have the most up to date information and knowledge, and will be able to tell you if you can reenlist with a waiver.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
