Question
I am interested in joining the Army, specifically attending West Point Academy.  I was diagnosed with asthma when I was young but have never had an attack for as long as I can remember and I play various sports, like lacrosse and football, and have never had to use my inhaler before or after practices. I wanted to know what my chances are of being able to join the army with my "asthma".

Answer
Ok I have questions....what you said made no sense.  You say you have never had an attack since you were young, then you say you have never had to use your inhaler before or after practices... If you dont have the symptoms of asthma then why would you still have an inhaler???

This is what I would do... Go to a pulminologist and get a lung function test for asthma done. If the doc says that you do not nor have never had asthma, then you never had it. Many docs and parents alike think that a child has asthma, when they only have allergies.

If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
