Question
Hi, my son was due to leave for the Navy May 28 but broke his finger and now has a cast. The Next ship date is Nov. 6th. That is sooo long. He is bringing all the medical paperwork as it is happening to his recruiter. So, when it is time to leave, does he have to bring anything to MEPS or bootcamp? Is he better off just joining another branch such as the Airforce? or will they tell him November also? Since it is only a date change, I'm assuming no physical again, right - that's what the recruiter said. And I think he is pretty good. Sorry to ask so many questions at one time but I'm freaked out!!!!

Answer
Gabby,

He will have to take the later ship date. I understand that its a little ways out, but he has to have time for that finger to heal. The reason for the ship date being so far out is all positions that the young seamen slotted for have scheduled class dates. I dont know what he has been selected or contracted for as far as a career goes, but it must be a long school. The november ship date will set him up fo rthe next class date. What he needs to do now is STAY OUT OF TROUBLE. I cant stress that ennough and obviously stay healthy.

There will be a spot physical again just before shipping, they will look at his finger and then press on more than likely. Its just a minor setback, he sill be fine, make him get a job and stay out of trouble...

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
