Question
Hi, I received my Notice of Elegibility to retire back in 1997 and I decided to transfer to the I.R.R. for the rest of my contract (2 years).  At the end of the 2 years I received my discharge from the reserves.

I am wondering if being discharged will affect my retirement at age 60. I have my N.O.E..

I guess I was lost in the loop due to transfer to the I.R.R. and was never counciled of my options of going to the Reserve Retired status. So thy just discharged me.  I didn't really know this until recently (5/6/08) that I was not in the Reserve Retired status when I finally decided to get an I.D. card.  That's when they said you need to find out what's going on with your records.  They gave me a number but that's a joke.
From my understanding the only thing that being in the Reserve Retired status does for me is give me the gray area benifits and give me a new base pay to compute my retirement pay at age 60.  Otherwise, being disharged just locks me into the base pay I was recieving at the time I was discharged and no gray area benifits.   What go you think?

Answer
You need to contact the Navy Reserve and see if you havent messed up your retirement. The thing is you had the notice of eligibility to retire, you have to retired while active...I am not sure about IRR. They actually should have retired you when you went into the IRR. Take all supporting documentation and take it to the Navy to see if you are still elligible
