Question
Heres my question, In july of 2005 I transferred from the Active duty air force to the active air force reserves under the palace chase program, with my civilian job it makes it tough to make it on every UTA, just wondering if you knew if it was possible to make the transfer to inactive, the career advisor I need to speak with always seems to be out. I currently have three years left on my contract and have served three. Thanks, SSgt Bryan Doucette

Answer
One thing you might look into is to see if you can transfer to an IMA program (Individual Mobilization Augmentee) The IMA program allows you to serve ALL your time at once.
I ran into this problem was I was a long Haul truck driver several years ago. My employer would let me have the time, but it was up to me to get there. So they would run me till it was my time, and where ever I was it was my responsibility to get there. THey were staying just inside the guidelines of the federal law requirement. I was powerless to do anything. So I quit after 7 bad years. I will leave the military this Feb after 20 years...with no retirement.

Its your responsibility to get to the UTA"S... You have the options to make them up as well, but that is between you and your squadron commander....he has to authorize it. Talk with your first shirt too, he could possibliy get something arranged.

As for transfering to the IRR, that agin is something that you and your commander willhave to discuss, he is the one that has the authority to transfer you to the IRR. By contract you are responsible to attend the UTA's and make your annual tour.

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
