Question
I'm a senior in high school. I'm trying to join the Navy but i told my recruter that i had a eye surgery five years ago to repair holes in the retina, in those records they said that there was retinal detachment but the doctor that performed the surgery didn't say anything about it, my doctor couldn't explain why i had holes in my retina and gave her documentation on it MEPS disqualified me my recruiter tryed to get me a waiver but it didn't go through i got two letters from two different doctors and it still didn'ty go through. I went to a marine recruiting office and they told me that i was disqualified. My question is, is there any way of me joining the doctors told me my eyes are 100% healthy.

Answer
This is a decsion that is upt to the Chief Medical Officer at the MEPS. I am not a doctor, so I can tell you that it would be possible, but at the same time, I wouldnt be for sure ...

If your eyes are given a clean bill of health, logic would tell you that yea probably, but everytig in the military is goverened by entery level regulations.  So again it gets dumped into the CMO at the MEPS....

Best way to find out is to go and try to enlist again and see what they tell you...

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
