Answer
Dear David --

I cannot predict what a military medical board would decide about a waiver for your back surgery.  Scoliosis is one of the conditions that is considered a disqualifying condition.  However, if your surgery was minor, and you are in very good shape now, you might get a waiver approved.

The only way to know for certain is to visit a recruiter, and apply.  If you are otherwise suited for military service, but the MEPS doctors disqualify you, you can apply for a waiver to the military medical board, and they will consider your individual case.  If you are in as good shape as you say you are, and have no complications, they might approve your waiver for military service.

Good luck to you.  Thank you for considering serving your country.
