Question
One of my friends was discharged recently from the ROTC program at his college because they said that he has asthma. As long as I have known him, he has not expressed any signs of asthma (wheezing, shortness of breath, etc.) during psychical activities and he did wrestling during high school  and does not use an inhaler. Is there anything he can do to try to get back into the program? or is he out for good? Thank you.

Answer
He needs to go to a Pulminologist and get a lung function test....its where they determine if they REALLY have asthma or not. Asthma is the most misdiagnosed of conditions. If a person has a slight cold and has a touch of Bronchitis....OH MY GOD... YOU HAVE ASTHMA!!!! I hate doctors for that reason! They have casued the early termination for a lot of potentially great soldiers because they dont do the lung function test in the service, they just discharge them... Have him get the test done then take that letter to from the docs to the commander of the ROTC.... if that dont work use the power of the senator or congressman!! Thats why we elect those idiots!!

If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
