Hi Mr. Lorenz,
I am interested in joining the Marines and I wanted to know if medical waivers are given for having a history of a hyperthyroid. I was actually diagnosed with the condition at the age of 12 and was on and off medication for four years. Since the age of 16, I havnt had a relapse. Thank you for your time.
If you have been off the medication for 4 years, then I would say that you do not have the condition. I would be asking your docs why not you dont need the medication and see if everything is ok....health wise. What casued the condition to begin with...
As for the military, Hyper is DQ. I will double check to be sure, becasue the Hyop is ok with meds...I do not know why they will allow one over the other, but Ill check.

If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
