Question
I am a 44yr old male, prior service. Trying to go national guard, have been since March 08. Applied 4 times to MEPS, it has always been something. This last time we had all documents even cert.of no records etc.. Was told the other day we have been accepted and set up an appointment for next week (Tues) to go. When I called my recruiter to get it changed to Wed. All was go and set, meps O.K.'d it. By end of day this past Thursday I got a call from my recruiter saying meps called and they made a mistake approving my paperwork, you must refile. Now what the heck? It took 3 weeks to get this news from the last submission. Is all in my head? Or is my recruiter pulling one over my head? Should I believe that meps is that busy and takes that long each and everytime we submit paperwork? I don't want to go over his head and cause any problems, but I am getting impatient and don't know if it's his fault or meps. Can you give me an insight on how all that works and is meps that screwed up?
Thanks
EJ

Answer
I would be tap dancing on that recruiters desk!!! That is complete BS, someone is dropping the ball....most likely the recruiter not filling out the paperwork properly. there may be some hang up at the MEPS level, but its hard to tell, your only link to the MEPS is your recruiter....make him work for you!

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
