Question
Ok so heres the question. I received a re-4 discharge from the navy a few years back and subsequently was not able to reenlist directly back in the marines like the outprocess people informed me I could do (discharged due to claustrophobia and I was a submarine seamen) So a couple of years later and a whole lot of research I found out that the national guard can enlist me due to the fact they do no review Re-4 codes as much as the current status of the individual. To make a long story short hes pushing the paper work thru now and I need to choose a MOS, if I choose a critical need MOS will the decrease my chances of having a conditional release into the marines or active duty army? Thats the first question.

The second question is what is a typical service time served before enlisted to officers programs become available or is it mainly your rank ?

Thanks in advance,
LJ

ps- How does one study for the asvab, I need to raise my GT score by 5-10 GT, from 100 to 110 basically.

Answer
The service you are appying to shoudl be able to do a RE code waiver. The service that you were discharged from is not the one that you are applying to and the issue that you suffered from then is not the case now. You need to be sure that you are applying to jobs that are not claustrphobic specific for one. You really need to take anything that you can get at this point. Just dont be too picky.

Officer programs are available after usually 180 days or after training is completed.

Go to barnes& nobles, the have an ASVAB study guide that you can purchase there....they run about 20 bucks
