QuestionMam,
I am currently an electronics Tech in the Navy with 8yrs in, I am 4yrs prior enlisted in the Marine Corps, so I am coming up on the Navy Higher Tenure at 14yrs. I am having trouble on the tests and do fairly well, however I am missing the cut by a few points each time. If I can not make e6 within two years my options are to go navy reserves or take the involuntary sep pay. My questions are, if I take the Involuntary sep pay, does that give me a reenlistment code of RE-6? Will an RE-6 reenlisment code be frowned upon within the DOD FEDERAL JOB WORLD, as well as the Civilian Sector? How will it fair in regards to a RE1 or regular reenlisment code? With an RE-6 code will I still be eligible for my VA benifits? My main conern is with my VA benefits and how will it effect my chances of obtaining employment on the outside. Thankyou for your time. You VA benefits are safe as long as you get an honorable discharge. Your re-enlistment code will not affect your VA benefits. You will not have an issue getting a federal job as long as you have an honorable discharge.
However, before the Navy puts you out with an RE 6, have you considered the Blue to Green program? You could take your skills and use them in the Army. This program is more streamlined than the usual interservice transfer, so you would not have to wait until the Navy separates you.
I am surprised you cannot get the 4 years you served in the Marines waived, so you do not have to be E6 for another 4 years.
