Question
I served for 5 years in the Marines and received an honorable discharge. I will not receive my B.S. until I turn 31 about a month after to be exact. Since I am prior service will I have the ability to go to Marine Corps OCS? I understand the age is 30 now but was unsure as to whether or not prior service received any special considerations.

Answer
Dear Steve --

Yes, as prior service Marine you can go to OCS at an older age than a brand new recruit.  Your maximum commissioning age is 35.  The formula is maximum age, plus the prior years served.  So for you it is 30 plus 5 for a maximum commissioning age of 35.  You must re-enter the service and do your basic training refresher, then complete OCS and receive your commission before you turn 36.

You can get on a contract now, that finalizes the deal for you to re-enlist as soon as you graduate if you wish.  It is a variation of the delayed entry program.

Good luck to you.
