Question
Hello Mr. Powers. My daughter is entering her third term at a state college, and has a long-term plan of going on to eventually become a clinical or behavioral psychologist. Our resources are limited, and she is not at all opposed to considering an ROTC or similar option (she has earned her Mitchell in the Civil Air Patrol, and was briefly involved in JrRotc in High School. Her brother is enlisted in the Coast Guard, and many of her friends are involved in the military in one form or another)

In searching so far, we haven't seen any references to ROTC programs beyond the undergraduate level. Are you aware of any of the branches offering post-graduate opportunities?

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Many branches of the military will let an officer go back and finish a post  graduate degree if it will benefit the service.  They will be a professional student, getting paid to go to school.  Of course, their contract will be extended, but that is fair.  It is not guaranteed, but they will also let them go to school part time while serving.

However, once a student graduates form ROTC at the bachelor level, there is no more ROTC for them.  They commission and serve.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
