QuestionHi,
I have a pretty good civilian job. I'm 24, it's just me my wife and a few dogs. My job is getting to be old hat. Can my employer fire me for trying to enlist in the military? How do I tell my employer I have enlisted? Also how do I get my creditors to help me out on my interest rates?
Thank You
AnswerDear Tim --
To get assistance with your credit rates, call the credit companies while your accounts are still in good standing. Even if you are a bit late, call them and work out a decreased interest rate or a reduced amount payment plan. Do not talk to the first person who answers the phone when you call; ask to speak to an account manager.
Your employer cannot fire you for trying to enlist in the military. However, you should give your management notice prior to departing for basic training. If you will be a reservist, then you should give your management advanced warning of your military training schedule and any deployments. If you are a deployed reservist, your company must give you a job equivalent to the one your vacated due to your deployment, when you return.
Good luck to you.
