Question
I joined the Army Reserve in Oct of 2002.  Since then I have been actively going to drill and serving my country.  After basic and AIT I reported to my unit which was a rear detachment, the main body had been deployed.  i basically sat around until around fall of 2004.  When the unit returned we made plans for AT to Haiti.  I discovered then that my security clearance had been messed up and i couldn't go.  i went to PLDC in 2005 and submitted my packet and was denied due to not being MOSQ(MP require security clearance)  I was disgruntled, I spoke to my Unit Admin and submitted a packet, no word for 6 months, submitted another no word.  I then stopped caring and gave up, but still went to drill.  I graduated a police academy in the civilian world and focused on that.  My unit then got most of its personnel involuntarily transferred in November of 2007 to a company mobilizing, but not me.. I wasn't MOSQ so I stayed in the rear with the gear.  My work as a Baltimore Police Officer made it difficult to attend weekend drills so my supervisor at the Police Dept having a similar circumstance wrote  me a letter to go into IRR. So, I put in a hardship packet for the IRR and was denied.  After being denied I drilled until this months, September, to which  i assumed was my last drill.  I signed a 6 x 2 contact and Oct 1, 2008(joined Oct 2, 2002) is my 6 year anniversary.  My commander told me that the Battalion isn't accepting IRR packets and that I would have to continue drilling or face a General Discharge for not attending drill.  Is there anything I can do?  I cant get promoted, cant get deployed and get treated poorly in my unit.  I have no desire to drill, I did the time I was told i had to do.

Thanks for any advise you can give me.

Answer
Makes no sense, if you signed a 6x2, you are automatically transferred to the IRR unless you are stop loss ofr deployment.  Demand a hearing and or call the IG, if you get no results, call your congressional office.  It's a contract for a reason.  I am sorry that your unit was ate up.  Thanks for serving, twice.  As a Soldier and as a police officer.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
