Question
Jason Grabill,

I am a former Sergeant (0331 - machineguner)with 4yrs. 2mths of active duty (1983-1987), then another 5 months for Desert Storm.

I am now 43 years old (44 in February 09'), and like most former Marines can stand to loose a few pounds and get into better shape.  I have been getting me the Marine Corps Times subscription for years now.  I have read the following:

"The Marine Corps Reserve Commissioning Program allows you to go to OCS, TBS, your MOS school, then back home to a drilling unit as a 2nd Lt's."

I am interested in that program, but I am not sure of the Corps max waivable age.  The Army is 45 for prior service, and I have not checked into the other braches, nor care to.

If you could respond to this question, I would greatly appreciate it.  I do know that the max age for Warrant Officer is 46 (my "PLAN B").

Respectfully,

Frank Storm

Frank:

I would get with a Marine Corps recruiter to find out for sure, but as far as I'm aware, that age restriction is going to keep you from getting into the program.  The Corps will allow you to deduct your service time from your current age, which will make you either 39 or 38 years old.

The first thing you'll have to do is get with a recruiter and start the paperwork to get through MEPS.  You'll have to take the PFT prior to doing anything, so that might be your first stumbling block LOL.

I think the age thing for Lt's is going to keep you from going that route, but the WO program is certainly worth looking at.

All the best,

Jason

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
