Question
When a recruit is medically discharged, is he/she sent directly back to where they were recruited from or is he/she held for awhile. Would there be any reason to hold him/her in boot camp for awhile? Do the people that recruited the person know about the discharge soon after it happens?

There is paperwork that has to be processed for a medical discharge, that likely takes some time to accomplish. The servicememeber isn't actually 'discharged' until he/she gets their DD214 and is sent home. The time for that varies by service and location, as well as the extent of the injury or condition that caused the discharge in the first place.
As far as being sent back, the servicemember will be given transportation or travel (either by gov't or personal conveyance) to their 'home of record' (i.e. the largest city they live near, or where they enlisted from).
Recruiters typically do know about boot camp medical issues such as this as well, but only that the person they recruited is getting a medical discharge.
