Question
I spent 4 years in the Coast Guard Reserves back in the years of 1986-90, and I was wondering if I could still come back in the reserves even if I am 40 years old.  let me know. thanks

Answer
Dear Steve --

Most of the services are accepting returning service members up to age 42 plus their prior years of service.  So if you served 4 years, you could return to service up to age 46.

You must be otherwise medically, physically, morally and intellectually qualified.  Further, you will need to qualify for an occupational specialty which the Coast Guard currently needs to fill.  You will have to attend refresher basic training, and you are unlikely to get your prior rank back.

Good luck to you.  Thank you for your prior service.
