Question
Hello. I am in the process of applying to officer candidate school for the navy.
I have a bachelors degree in political science and earned a full sports
scholarship to play quarterback for the university I went to.  However, I have
a few things on my record, and I am worried it will ruin my chances of getting
accepted to OCS; a D.U.I. when I was 18 and resisting arrest when I was 23. I
am now 26.
I have a few questions for you; 1) Will my record disqualify me from getting
into O.C.S. even if I get them expunged? 2) If I do not get accepted at first,
can I keep applying until I get in or how many times can I apply? 3) How
competitive is it to get in to OCS, what is the acceptance percentage?

Answer
The DUI may have an affect, but they do look at the person as a whole.  If denied, you can reapply.  There are only a certain number of slots per year for OCS,  so the percenatge depnds on how many people apply per year.  It all depends on who you go up against.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
