Question
Can a felony prevent me from joining the marine force recon? I was 14 when
I was covicted of burglary. I was underage at the time and gave into peer
pressure. I thought that it should be cleared off my record when I turned 18.
But my recruiter said I needed a waiver. Is this true and is there anyway to
disclose my criminal background?

Yes, you need to disclose the conviction no matter what. Fail to do so will result in immediate discharge with an 'ineligble to reenlist' code on your records and a crappy discharge to boot. If the waiver is accepted, then there won't be any issues. Your recruiter knows his stuff and you need to do what he tells you to do.

Field Radio Operator: MOS 2531. Served as a Platoon Sergeant in a Communications Platoon assigned to MEU Service Support Group 24 (Special Operations Capable). Did a hitch in the Army reserves as an 11B (Infantryman), 3 years. Finished out my career in the Air National Guard as a BioEnvironmental Engineer MOS 4B3X1, did that for a few years.
